A universal language for letting someone know that you care and love them, roses actually come in different colors and in significance!

According to estimates, there are over 100 types of roses. Roses existed long before man, long before manicured gardens, and long before anybody knew what an outward looking bud eye was.

In this blog, the Lakeland landscaping experts will be tackling different types of roses and their significance, as well as how to grow them.

They’re also considered as the most traditional Valentine’s day flower, and with good reason. This color represents love, romance, love, beauty, and perfection.

It is sometimes said that a dark red rose represents humility and unconscious beauty.

Growing Your Own Roses

Now that you’ve known a little history about roses and their colors, we’re sharing valuable tips on how to grow them! Roses are also a good addition to your Lakeland custom landscape design, should you have plans to upgrade your lawn.

It's critical to find a location that gets at least six hours of sun each day for growing roses. Rose plants must also be planted in good, well-drained soil.

Early in the spring, plant dormant roses (or fall). Potted plants can be planted at any time of year, but the best time is in the spring. If you're going to plant bare root roses, soak them in water for at least 24 hours before planting.

Both bare root and potted rose bushes should be planted at a depth of around 2 feet (61 cm), with a hole large enough to accommodate the roots. Backfill the hole with dirt, including some well-rotted manure, and thoroughly water it. Then build up a mound of earth around the plant's base.
